An introduction to the basic concepts from point-set topology. Topology is a rather abstract branch of mathematics. Nevertheless, topological notions have applications to a variety of situations in mathematics and the natural sciences. Topics of study include: open and closed sets; topological spaces; continuous functions; subspace, product, and quotient topologies; connected and compact spaces (time permitting); the fundamental group and introductory homotopy theory (time permitting).
